Tips to prepare your home for listing photos and videos

GENERAL TIPS

– Make sure the room looks fresh: dust/polish, vacuum, mop, clean windows, etc. Do this well before the photographer arrives, so that all surfaces are clean and dry.
– Store away loose items to remove all distractions. Think of remote controls, mail, magazines, clothes and toys.
– Make sure there are not too many coats hanging on the coat rack.
– Remove as many personal items and valuables as possible – things you would rather not see in the photos.
– Open all curtains, blinds and shutters.
– Switch on all the lights and make sure they are all working.
– Remove as many items from the window sills as possible so nothing blocks views from your windows.
– Buy fresh, colourful fruit and/or flowers.
– Make sure that pet’s things (food bowls and baskets/cushions/toys) are tidy and out of sight.

KITCHEN

– Make sure the kitchen is clean. Clear the sink (no dirty dishes!)
– Clear all work tops as much as possible, including appliances. Too many appliances can make the kitchen feel cluttered. A coffee machine can stay, but try to get the cables out of sight as much as possible.
– Make sure that the taps, kitchen counter and appliances are clean. Remove dishcloths, towels, washing-up brush, soap dispensers and other accessories.

BEDROOM

– Make sure your bedroom(s) are clean, fresh and tidy. Remove clutter.
– Make your bed correctly and remove wrinkles as much as possible. Cover the bed with a neutral-coloured as possible duvet.
– Remove clothing, shoes and bathrobes.
– Make sure there are no items under the bed or on a cupboard in sight.
– In children’s rooms, make sure it is not too full. Tidy up the toys and remove any posters.

BATHROOM/TOILET

– Make sure the bathroom/toilet is clean and smells fresh.
– Remove toothpaste, shampoo bottles, shower gel, razors, brushes and toothbrushes out of sight.
– Remove bathrobes and bathmats.
– Leave nice products such as perfume bottles or wellness products.
– Put the toilet seat down.
– Store away toilet paper.

EXTERIOR

– Do not place bicycle containers or rubbish bags in front of the house or against the façade.
– Clean up the garage/storage room if you want to have this photographed.
– Store garden tools, washing mills, drying racks, rubbish bins and garden hoses.
– Place cushions on the garden furniture if necessary. Make sure that garden furniture is clean and dry.
– Remove children’s toys such as slides and bicycles from the garden if possible.
– Open roll-down shutters and curtains.
